The developers of “Cyberpunk 2077” have succeeded in creating an outstanding computer game, even if graphic errors and bugs cloud the gaming experience.
More memory space in the brain, reinforced ankles or the rocket launcher for the forearm? The surgeons in the computer game “Cyberpunk 2077” implant everything into the player, as long as he can pay with enough Eddies (short for Eurodollars).
But he does not have to fear that he will attract crooked looks with metal fingertips or wires on his neck. The children on the streets of Night City already have chips under their skin and high-tech prostheses.
Night City is the location of “Cyberpunk 2077”. Huge skyscrapers pile up in the metropolis, neon signs bathe the streets in pink light, basses throb at every corner. However, the people in the alleys are far from a high-tech, bright future, many are homeless. The rich and beautiful, on the other hand, float above the city in flying cars. Corrupt mega-corporations and criminal gangs rule the world and have widened the gap between rich and poor.
This is the scenario that game inventor Mike Pondsmith envisioned for the future in 1988. His pen-and-paper role-playing games “Cyberpunk 2013” and “Cyberpunk 2020” have significantly shaped the science fiction subgenre of the same name. Now his ideas are also available as a computer game. For more than eight years, the Polish company CD Projekt Red worked on “Cyberpunk 2077” – in exchange with Pondsmith. The result is an open world role-playing game.
The player controls the protagonist V or the protagonist V – he decides the gender himself, as well as the nail polish pattern, the pubic hairstyle and the background story. V has either grown up on the street, in the wasteland outside the city or as the child of a wealthy business family. The background can influence the outcome of the story in some places.
V hires out as a mercenary with various sizes from the criminal milieu. For an order, an implant is to be obtained that virtually makes you immortal. A kind of elixir of immortality, only – in keeping with cyberpunk – in the form of a computer chip.
